A hovercraft, for one. i rode on one across the san francisco bay from sf to oakland. we boarded on the sloping launch "pad"; the air started and pushed it up and it floated on this powerful blast of downward air, lifting the craft up.. When that point happens, the downward force wins, and the boat sinks further beneath the water—especially if there isn't any air left inside to balance out the average density. while the science behind boats floating is rather involved, the results are the same for us: an enjoyable way to spend some time on the water.. An amphibious cycle is a human-powered vehicle capable of operation on both land and water. "saidullah's bicycle" uses four rectangular air filled floats for buoyancy, and is propelled using two fan blades which are attached to the spokes. moraga's "cyclo amphibious" uses a simple tricycle frame to support three floaters which provide both the floatation and thrust.. 
boats that float on air All boats can float, but floating is more complex and confusing than it sounds and it's best discussed through a scientific concept called buoyancy, which is the force that causes floating. any object will either float or sink in water depending on its density (how much a certain volume of it weighs)..
